Your valuable resources
can focus on higher margin, more profitable business
Any number of potential
problems are always present in any computer or network
deployment - many of them are unique.
With technology evolving faster than ever before and
time-to-market pressures continuing to increase,
deploying new or unfamiliar technology can place the
entire network and the business at risk. Although such
risks cannot be totally averted, they can be
substantially decreased, thereby avoiding the need for
later time-consuming onsite reworks and expensive
delays. A recent survey identified that 37% of
projects are completed on time, 42% are completed on
budget and 15% required call-backs. Increasingly,
customers are looking to vendors and their partners to
provide services and solutions that identifies and
remedies these problems and issues prior to the
network deployment.
Staging and configuration is normally performed by a
team of project engineers who assemble the devices,
then configure each unit from the information supplied
by the project team and customer. Once configured, the
engineers perform limited testing and produce
documentation. This documentation is then collated and
put into a presentable form for the end customer by
the project team and the network is shipped.
Of course that is in a perfect world. Typically the
staging is delayed by other related staging problems.
For example incorrect or incomplete configuration
data, insufficient cables or wrong cables, hardware
faults, incompatibilities - the list is endless.
When the equipment is finally ready for shipping and
it reaches its final destination, site installation
engineers are called upon to perform the final
installation and to make further adjustments and
changes.
These "Old World" staging practices are: expensive,
manually intensive, error prone, not repeatable, not
timely and are not guaranteed to provide high levels
of satisfaction.
Until now, the way in which networks have been staged
has changed very little over the past 30 years so all
these problems, issues and concerns have remained
totally unanswered.
The "New World" RDS method
RDS will take care of your equipment from the moment
it arrives at our staging centre to the moment it
arrives at it's final destination. Everything is
tracked by serial number and we can produce various
reports of current inventory, receipts and shipment
details. This can be viewed in near real time through
optional use of eDeployTM.
Before the configuration and testing of the device
takes place, we will pick from stock, unpack and
assemble the unit and modules, mount and interconnect
devices (if required).
Once the unit hardware is assembled our computerised
"Automation Engineering" system takes over the entire
process until the unit is ready to be packed for
shipping. As your devices are now totally under
computer control, nothing is entered by hand and the
system ensures the highest possible quality. The
system will check to ensure the unit has been
assembled to your exact requirements. It will check to
ensure the correct software and firmware is present
and automatically upgrade or downgrade accordingly.
The system will test all the unit components to ensure
full operational functionality and the device is power
cycled several times to ensure everything is
consistent and 100% correct. It is only when the unit
passes the very stringent configuration process and
tests with "Zero Errors" is the documentation produced
automatically, ensuring you have up to the minute and
accurate documentation for your network.
As part of the above overall process the system
immediately identifies any DOA (Dead On Arrival)
components.
RDS ensure delivery of all equipment is when and where
you want it by working with you to determine your
specific packing and shipping needs. Rapid Deployment
Solutions are able to "Drop Ship" staged and
configured networks back to a centralised facility or
to specific locations around the world co-ordinated
with the project schedule.
RDS are the only UK staging company to offer a
International DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) with their
configuration and staging service, so you know up
front the cost to your company for your network
deployment. No hidden charges or taxes ensure your
network is implemented "On Budget".
